Summary: Ronon finds a zat gun. Enough said.
Notes: Answers the following question: What the hell happened to Sheppard's zat from The Return Part 1? Also preparing me for the exciting return of SGA on SciFi next Friday...even though I've seen all the new episodes already. ;)

Big Guns

Ronon found the weapon sticking out of one of Sheppard’s bags in the back of the puddle jumper. Sleek, compact, and shaped like a letter from the Earth alphabet, it didn't it look like an ARG nor did it remind him of the other weapons he had been introduced to in Atlantis.

Ronon had to wonder if the Atlanteans had been holding out on him all this time.

He looked at the weapon for a moment and then squeezed the handgrip, activating the main body with a crackle of energy and sound. He observed the weapon from all angles, becoming accustomed to the weight and flow of it without delay, and aimed it at a tree outside the open hatch.

McKay stepped in his line of fire one instant before he touched the trigger mechanism. The scientist glanced up from his data pad at Ronon’s grunt of dissatisfaction. At the sight of the weapon pointed in his face, he shrieked like a child and dove for cover on the ground.

“Oh my God! Put that a way! Now!”

Ronon rolled his eyes at McKay’s familiar theatrics and lowered the weapon to his side.

“This another one of your Replicator guns?”

“Does it look like one, Chewie? It’s a zat'nik'tel, hardly standard military issue.” McKay snapped, rising to his knees and dusting dirt off his jacket. Ronon frowned at the nickname, but felt none of the displeasure that usually came when McKay insulted him. “Christ, I leave you alone for one minute and you’re pulling freaking zat guns out of your hair. Where did you find that thing anyway?”

“Sheppard’s bag,” Ronon responded, moving aside as McKay made his way into the rear compartment of the ‘jumper. “So this…zat gun. Does it work – ?”

“Good?” McKay interrupted patronizingly, maneuvering around the ‘jumper with his nose stuck to the data pad. “Well, the first shot incapacities with excruciating pain, the second kills, and the third gets rid of the evidence. Work ‘good’ enough for you?”

Ronon glanced at the little gun in his hands, suitably impressed.

“Any way I can get one of these?”

“Sure, after we manage to save Atlantis from the Asurans without getting killed or tortured too badly with terrible visions of doom, and then convince the SGC not to drag us back to Earth, we’ll make a visit to the nearest Weapons ‘R’ Us and pick you up all the nice Goa’uld toys you want,” McKay said, an odd mix of irritation and affection in his voice.

“Why can’t I have this one?”

“Because that one is Sheppard’s and then you’d be undermining his authority with two cool guns instead of just the one…and will you put that thing away already? Here I’d thought we’d gotten past the ‘threatening each other with weapons and bodily harm’ stage in our volatile relationship…”

Ronon grinned, deactivated the gun, and slid it into his trouser pocket.
