Summary: Oracles aren't meant to go on quests and be the heroes. But someone needs to look out for Annabeth, and Rachel's the only option she's got. Set during The Lost Hero.
Notes: Loved the way RR showed us Annabeth and Rachel's friendship in the book, and decided to write a short ficlet about them because I don't actually write the two of them together a lot even though they're my favorites. Also Annabeth needs lots of hugs after this book, y/y.

( Mortals apparently respond better to questioning when the cute redhead in school uniform is doing it rather than a disheveled blond wearing battle armor under her winter coat and threatening to cut their tongues out. )

I know we've got less than a day left, but the UK Percy Jackson website has some better character profiles up for Jason, Leo and Piper with a crap ton of information about them. Well, compared to the other sites anyway.

Spoilers include: who Piper's mom is, a fun fact about Jason, and just more OMG AWESOME from Leo.

The official website for The Lost Hero has gone live with a trailer for the book and a couple of character profiles (although one is actually a place profile, whatever). Plus there's cool art of the new characters under "Extras." I like Piper's best, even if we can't see her face, lol.

yet another edit: CAN WE ALSO CELEBRATE THE FACT THAT THIS SUCKER IS ALMOST 600 PAGES LONG?

The summary of The Lost Hero settles it: Jason Leo is the son Hephaestus. Gloat away, mediate89. The new cover's also on the Amazon link if you haven't seen it yet.

Also, some fun Lost Hero related things from an NY Times interview with RR:

“I know that it will be five books, like ‘Percy Jackson,’” Mr. Riordan said. “I know the premise for each book and who will appear in which, and who the main characters are.”

He added: “I think I can safely say that all of the characters from the ‘Percy Jackson’ series will, at one point or another, make a contribution in the new series.”

In the meantime, he said he plans to write one book in each of his ongoing literary franchises every six months – a “Kane Chronicles” novel in the spring, a “Heroes of Olympus” novel in the fall – with the very, very distant possibility that the two series could some day cross over.

“I’ve certainly structured it with the suggestion that the worlds exist side-by-side,” Mr. Riordan said.

He added: “Maybe one of these days, way down the line, we’ll have the ultimate smackdown between the Greeks and the Egyptians. That’s a ways off.”
