Movies and more
May. 14th, 2006 09:31 pmSo yesterday I discovered that there's a new trailer circling the internet for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and it took me an entire hour to find a version that would work on my crappy upstairs computer. My basic thought through the entire trailer was:
OMFG why can't July be here RIGHT NOW?!!!
And:
WTF is up with the Jack/Elizabeth moment?!??! What about WILL, damn it??!!
And then I ran through the house screaming in excitement. It's a little sad that my family is no longer frightened when I do these sorts of things...
The teaser trailer made PoTC 2 look a little iffy. You know, the whole "it might be a good even though it kinda doesn't look that way, but I'll see it anyway because of Mr. Depp and Mr. Bloom" iffy-ness. But THIS trailer made it look AMAZING and I am soooo sorry I doubted the skills of the great Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer.
Muwahaha. Pirates.
*giggle*
In other movie news, I went to go see Poseidon today because I'm a fan of the original and Josh Lucas is a complete hottie, even without his southern accent. I thought it was good but way intense. Basically, once the ship turned over the action boulder started rolling and it didn't stop for a rest until two minutes to the end of the movie. The effects were pretty good - I've read that ol' Wolfgang Peterson was trying to out-Titanic Titanic and he did a pretty good job if it, though Titanic was a little less firebally and explosive. I like how the ship was falling apart and exploded as the survivors fought through it - the old version just had those explosions that were hardly convincing.
It was just a slight improvement over The Poseidon Adventure though. Adventure drags a lot, even during action sequences, and Gene Hackman basically shouts through the entire effing movie. It's unrealistic too, but what can you expect from a movie made in the 70s? Adventure had better characters, however, and you kinda sorta cared when they died. In the new one, it was all, "Oh, so-and-so died. So sad. Not," because they didn't have as much character development at the beginning.
All-in-all, it was a good, at the edge of your seat, action movie and not much else. If you liked the original, you'll probably like this one. Final grade: B.
I'm currently surfing BabyNames.com to add to my name list. I'm looking for some character name ideas, in case you're wondering.
My father's probably going to have a heart attack when he sees it in the internet history. Knew I probably shouldn't be doing this on his laptop.
