NaNo: The Day of Excuses

I'm behind by about 2,500 words, I think. I didn't write anything on Thursday because I drank a bit and then couldn't focus the rest of the night. Didn't do much on Friday, either, because my roommate had people over to drink and they didn't leave until like 11ish. Plus, I made icons. I have my excuses and I'm not afraid to use them!

I am a bit worried that 34K in, and I haven't gotten anywhere near the important plot points yet. Probably because I'm stuck in the middle and keep dragging out scenes that don't need to be extended.

I have discovered that when I'm stuck, inserting Nico into any scene will guarantee me at least 300 extra words. Plus, it's never not fun to write all the characters' OMG NICO WTF YOU'RE A CREEP reactions.

Instead of a selection today, I want to do another meme! I've seen this one floating around the last couple of weeks, so let's have a go at it.


Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500 words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment to this post with that selection. I will then give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in the first place, what's going on in the character's heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment means in the context of the rest of the fic, lots of awful puns, and anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD commentary track.

The problem I always have with Percy/Nico, even though I love it to little tiny pieces, is that to get Percy/Nico, I usually have to break Annabeth out of the equation and I love Annabeth way too much to do that to break both her and Percy's hearts all at once. So I compromise and make it Percy/Nico/Annabeth because, really, one more person just adds like ten thousand kinds of awesome to any pairing. And since the prompt for In The Loop was experiments or something similar, I felt like I could go the threesome route without compromising the slash factor too much.

Anyway, this was the first fic I did in Nico's POV, so that was an experience. When I crawled inside Nico's head (yeah, that doesn't sound like creepy writer at all), his big thing was that he gets left out of everything and that everyone always forgets about him, so that's where the central theme and the title came from.

I like to have my fics, even short little one shots, come full circle from the beginning to the end, so I knew the last line would have the reflect the first a little. By the end, Nico knew what he was finally missing out on, so I think that's what added to the humor of it - just that desperate, "You people have been holding out me and I don't like it!" attitude he had throughout the fic.

I am totally with you, on that whole addition of a third party = 100000000x of awesome~ I love the Percy/Nico/Annabeth dynamic, and you're definitely right that experimentation is a good way to get that into play!

XD That so totally sounds like Nico, at least from my experiences in his head (ahaha, yeah, we're such creepy people, us writers!). He is totally not cool with being left out, and seriously "D:" at anyone when they do it!
