“Your Earth movies have it all wrong,” Teyla said, firing a few shots over her shoulder. “There is nothing romantic about a rescue situation.”
“Well, you have to understand,” John replied, pulling her around a corner and out of the line of fire. “In the movies, usually the girl’s the one who needs to be rescued – ”
“Are you suggesting this would be more romantic if it had been me locked in the dungeon instead of you?” she said, glaring at him as they ran down the corridor. “Because I will break these handcuffs with my bare hands and leave you behind if that is so.”
“No, I’m not,” he said, ducking as stray bullet whizzed over his shoulder. “Trust me, the last thing I wanted to do on our anniversary is get shot at by crazy Genii wannabes in their underground hideout while we’re handcuffed together and running for our lives.”
“At least it is better than the trouble we got into last year,” Teyla replied, ducking around another corner. “Quickly, in here.”
She grabbed him by the shirt front and dragged him into a tiny nook near the end of the corridor. It was tight squeeze but they both fit. John wrapped an arm around her waist, blocking her from the view from anyone passing by.
“You know I don’t think of you as my damsel in distress or anything, right?”
Teyla rolled her eyes and pulled out a detonator from her vest pocket. John's eyes popped in surprise.
“If anything,” she said, eyes shining wickedly. “You are my damsel.”
She pressed the button and a sizeable explosion rocked the complex. She ducked her head into his shoulder as dust rained on their heads. She waited until the noise of their pursuers faded before she pulled away again.
“I love a woman who knows how to handle her C4,” John said, grinning at her. “Happy anniversary, dear.”
She sighed in exasperation and pecked him once on the lips.
“Happy anniversary, John.”
