Only one more month!

The official website for The Lost Hero has gone live with a trailer for the book and a couple of character profiles (although one is actually a place profile, whatever). Plus there's cool art of the new characters under "Extras." I like Piper's best, even if we can't see her face, lol.

- One of the characters that's clickable now is the effing BRONZE DRAGON from the cover. His name is Festus and he essentially Leo's PET MECHANICAL DRAGON. EEEEEEEEE.

- Hera's one of the "coming soon" profiles, so we know she's going to have a big part to play and that Riordan's playing in the lines of the original Jason myth. But will Hera be on Jason's side or is she the "mistress" talked about in the first two chapters? Also, I will LOL MIGHTILY if Jason turns out to be Hera's son because it's about time she got back on Zeus for being a cheating asshole.

- Rick repeats that we will definitely see Percy, Annabeth, Grover and others in the new series.

- The summary on the video says: "The Greeks aren't the only gods in town."

Lemme repeat that: The Greeks aren't the only gods in town

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee do you know what this means i am so excite

Photobucket

eta: The profiles for Jason, Leo, Piper and Hera can be accessed manually. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] spellcoats for pointing that out!

Piper

Piper's Dagger:
Proper name Katoptris, this weapon, sheathed in black leather, is the perfect tool for demigod Piper ... should she get caught in a scrap.

What does it do?
What does it do? Piper's chosen protective tool Katoptris is a ceremonial knife, useful in battle and is a symbol of power and status.

Noteworthy:
This knife was originally a wedding present to Helen of Troy, and when looked upon, can show much more than the holder's reflection.

- This sounds awesome. Also, the Helen of Troy connection makes me think daughter of Aphrodite, y/y?

Leo

Leo's Tool Belt:
On the surface, just an average tool belt, but the contents inside might just come in handy for demigod Leo.

What does it do?
When caught in battle or another sticky situation, Leo has the power to pull any average tool that comes to his mind, right out of his trusty tool belt. All he has to do is ask.

Noteworthy:
Leo's requests for his tool belt must be limited to small everyday objects, no magic items here.

- THIS SOUNDS EVEN MORE AWESOME ASDJLAJDLKASJ LEO YOU ALREADY ARE MY FAVORITE

Jason

Jason's Coin:
Stamped on one side with the picture of a battle axe, with a man's face wreathed in laurels on the other, this piece of metal may come in handy for young demigod Jason.

What does it do?
This clever chunk of change has the power to turn into a weapon, with a simple toss in the air.

Noteworthy:
Sometimes this coin turns into a lance, sometimes it's a double-edged sword ... it all depends on the flip.

- Jason's gonna be a badass. That is all.

Hera

The goddess of marriage, Zeus' better half, also known as Juno in Roman mythology.

What does she do?
She's the queen of the gods, but her power is a bit restricted at the moment, and she needs some demigod assistance.

Noteworthy:
In her Roman state, Juno is more war-like and fierce than Hera the Greek goddess. Oh, and she doesn't have any demigod children.

- I think it's interesting that Hera's profile makes the distinction between her Greek and Roman counterparts. Definitely gives credit to the theory that the Roman gods are going to be a part of the series and maybe could be the villains? Wonder what kind of trouble she's gotten in that she needs demigod assistance for...

Festus

Just your average, run-of-the-mill bronze mechanical dragon. Meet Festus, friend and chauffeur to the three young demigods.

What does it do?
Aside from fly, breathe fire, and hiss steam? He has built in seat warmers!

Noteworthy:
Festus' amazing fire power can be deadly to anyone but Leo, who is immune to the dragon's flames.

- FUCK YEAH DRAGONSSSSSS

yet another edit: CAN WE ALSO CELEBRATE THE FACT THAT THIS SUCKER IS ALMOST 600 PAGES LONG?

Hi I'm out of touch with fandom, has there been discussion about Hera's role?

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Not that I know of off the top of my head. I know there's been some speculation that she might have a part in it because of the original Jason myth, but this is first thing that's confirmed she'd be in it.

[identity profile] artemisrae.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what it says about me that instead of thinking of the legit Jason myth, I thought of how Annabeth pissed off Hera a few books back... except the profile has me wondering.

I AM SO CONFUSED THOUGH I thought Chiron said in the Lightning Thief that the Greek and Roman gods were the same. UNLESS ITS ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT WE NEVER EVER TALK ABOUT EVER AGAIN (I love you RSquared, but would it kill you to mention the gray streaks or the emotional connection with Grover just once?)

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW WHY DOES HE DO THIS TO US

Maybe the Greeks overpowered the Romans and that's what Chiron meant my "taking on" new names?

In her Roman state

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN, RICK RIORDAN

[identity profile] angel-gidget.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know which I love more, you choice in gifs or your choice in tags. ♥

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Gifs make everything better, true facts.

[identity profile] saturninepen.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Also, I will LOL MIGHTILY if Jason turns out to be Hera's son because it's about time she got back on Zeus for being a cheating asshole.

I've wanted this to happen ever since the preview came out. Seriously.

But, I think Piper is more likely a daughter of Hera than Jason is her son. We know that her godly parent is a goddess, for one, and two, her eyes were all funky. It just reminded me of the myth about peacocks and how they got the eyes in their tails :3

The summary on the video says: "The Greeks aren't the only gods in town."

And, going back to why I think Piper is the spawn of Hera rather than Jason...that goes back to the theory that he's the son of Jupiter, yes? Or at the very least, a Roman god.

eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee do you know what this means i am so excite

I KNOW IT NEEDS TO BE OCTOBER ALREADY D: OMG.

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Still think Piper's gonna be a daughter of Aphrodite. ;)

Definitely leaning back towards Jason being the son of Jupiter or another powerful Roman god with some of this new information. I think it'd be much more interesting to have the different pantheons playing fighting together than just the Greeks going at it.

[identity profile] saturninepen.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
WAAAIT, I HAVE NOT HEARD THIS THEORY.
Where did the Aphrodite-ness come from?

Though, I think that would be kick ass. Silena was amazing in TLO, but her time was cut waaaaay too short; I'm so looking forward to children of other gods (Olympian or minor) having a major role, so I'm totally stoked with the idea that she may be Aphrodite's kid. And then Piper and Leo would totally be apologies for the awesome that was Beckendorf and Silena, that was then cut prematurely and depressingly short.

Her eyes though. Idk, random details stick with me and haunt me for all eternity. If her eyes are something that Riordan put in there and is going to forget/ignore later (like the grey streaks x.x), I'm 'a be pissed |:

The rush of excitement I get when I see anything about The Lost Hero...well, honestly, it's sort of embarrassing.

So I should put this out there now. I'm going on vacation about a week after the book comes out, so my intention is to save it and read it while on vacation. But I'm going to need someone to tell me whether I will love it and how good the Percabeth moments are on a scale of 1 to 10, because...well, because that's the kind of person I am. Can this be arranged? (The scale is negotiable.)

[identity profile] saturninepen.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
The rush of excitement I get when I see anything about The Lost Hero...well, honestly, it's sort of embarrassing.

That's okay. I get this way too :D

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
You will probably have me screaming about it all over the Internet, so it is definitely negotiable. ;)

I'm ridiculously busy the week that the book comes out; I'm in a wedding that Saturday so I'll have Wednesday to read and digest, and then spend all weekend being a grump because I won't be able to get online and ~DISCUSS~ with everyone.

[identity profile] heyjessiex.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I shrieked when I saw this.

But honestly, I can't wait. I informed everyone that was a fan of Percy Jackson that the new book was coming out in 29 days.

SO. FREAKING. EXCITED.

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
ME TOO. NEED IT NOOOOW.

[identity profile] mapping-stars.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, suddenly October can't come fast enough. For some reason seeing the trailer for The Lost Hero amped up my excitement about ten-fold. I CANNOT wait. I'm going to get so confused trying to keep my mythologies straight.

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Although I usually think book trailers are kind of dumb, this one got me really excited! Probably because I'm dying for any information about TLH that I can get.

[identity profile] nodoubtfan92.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
i am so excited for this book it isn't even funny. love the gif by the way =]

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. :)

[identity profile] spellcoats.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
You can actually access the profiles manually!!!!

Hera
Jason
Leo
Piper

I'm no Latin-speaker, but I think Jason's coin actually says Julius.

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
omg, epic. Jason's coin so sounds cool. OKAY EVERYONE'S SHIT SOUNDS REALLY COOL.

It does. One of the running theories is that Jason's a son of a Roman god, which would kind of make sense since the Hera profile makes the distinction between Greek/Roman gods...

[identity profile] spellcoats.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I remember everyone's theories. I think the two most predominant ones were either Jupiter or a wind god.

OKAY NOW I WANT YOUR INPUT ON SOMETHING. Debs and I are making an announcement at [livejournal.com profile] halfbloodhill to let everyone know that The Heroes of Olympus is fair game as PJO canon material and is allowed in the comm. But we're torn on whether to allow The Kane Chronicles as well. Neither of us has read it yet, and while we've heard that there are shout-outs to PJO, we're not sure if that's enough to back up including it in the comm's focus. I'm pretty sure I remember you reading the first book, so what do you think?

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
RR's said that Kane Chronicles is in the same universe as PJO, so I definitely think they could be included and no one would get up in arms about it. I was thinking about doing the same thing for [livejournal.com profile] daedalus_laptop because I don't think The Kane Chronicles has any comms yet and most people who read it have read PJO as well.

[identity profile] spellcoats.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, did he? That makes it easy, then.

I finished Mockingjay. ;;

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
*massive hugs to you* That book just destroyed me for days afterward, man. why suzanne collins whyyyyyy

[identity profile] spellcoats.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
*clings forever* Ohhhh god it just broke my heart into little bitty pieces and stomped all over them and I loved every second of it. I'm sad so many of my friends seem to hate it.

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Mockingjay is one of those books that gives you a lot of mixed feelings after you finish it because (especially if you've been waiting forever and ever for it) it might not have ended the way you expected or wanted. I'm still not quite sure how I feel about it, other than it destroyed my heart and I kind of love it because of that, but I'm definitely on the positive side of the fence. I think it just takes a while to get your mind wrapped around everything that happened and be happy with the way it ended.

[identity profile] saturninepen.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
/butting in, 'cause that's what I do....

KC so needs a comm or to be part of a comm somewhere. The miniscule size of that fandom depresses me. And I don't care if it's next to impossible to write for because there's only the one book, it needs more attention |:

And yeah, I think I've always accepted Kane Chronicles as being in the same universe as PJO /shrug

[identity profile] dreamyzingg.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
Kay so I've been creeping your LiveJournal ever since I read Death's Dare, which is awesome btw, and when I saw this I freaked out. After watching that trailer and reading the character pages I officially cannot wait until The Lost Hero :D:D:D

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
Me either. :)

[identity profile] aerodactylus.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I NEEDS ME A MYTHOLOGY CAGEFIGHT. At the VERY LEAST, I need gods of different pantheons to meet and have a snarkfest. STOP TEASING US RICK RIORDAN.

ZOMG I CAN'T WAIT A MONTH.

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:46 am (UTC)(link)
I KNOW. I NEED CROSS-PANTHEON SNARK NOW.

[identity profile] skypirateb.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
For interests sake, "katroptis" is ancient Greek for "mirror". It sounds like the knife will kinda be like Annabeth's shield, but maybe show inner qualities of a person? Maybe?

I'm so excited, will definately have to pre-order this from BookDepository xD

[identity profile] greenconverses.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
For interests sake, "katroptis" is ancient Greek for "mirror".

All right, that almost confirms it. Piper has to be a daughter of Aphrodite or, idk, I'll eat a hat.

[identity profile] skypirateb.livejournal.com 2010-09-14 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed.

Also, 600 pages?! This comes out the week before I start exams! *facepalm*

That gif you have there? SUMS UP MY JOY SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!

I am so excited for this. And ROMAN GODS?!?! Seriously though Rick needs to stop teasing us. If all these gods are roaming around New York City then I need see so inter-god interaction. It could be short and sweet, like all of them meet in a coffee shop to talk about their deliquent children and stuff.SOMETHING.

Are you for real? :| Or is this one of Kronos' secret mind rape plots?

But, if it's not... THEN LET'S HAVE OURSELVES A PARTY FOR BAMF CHARACTERS(+ dragon) AND 600 PAGES OF BLISS.

[identity profile] avid-reader1029.livejournal.com 2010-09-23 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, first item: *flail*. The Lost Hero is longer than The Last Olympian,

Second item: It is my personal belief that The Lost Hero is my early birthday present from RR, because he knows my soul (he has to, otherwise how would he keep on writing what I want to read?).

Third item: All right, that almost confirms it. Piper has to be a daughter of Aphrodite or, idk, I'll eat a hat. This. Just, this. I need Piper to be a daughter of Aphrodite, to prove to myself and to everybody else that children of Aphrodite can be awesome all the time, and not just when they're sacrificing themselves to the drakon.

In conclusion: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE! (only 20 days to go!)
