4. Sam still doesn’t get why the rest of Atlantis puts up with Rodney McKay.
He’s still as whiny and rude and obnoxious as she remembers, and it took him a month and several rude memos to get him to stop referring to her as “that insufferable blonde woman” in science staff meetings. He rules the science department with an iron fist of fear, and he managed to reduce some of the young scientists to tears within a week of their arrival off the Daedalus. Rodney insults everyone on a regular basis, even his fellow team members, and it’s a genuine miracle that Sheppard puts up with it.
He doesn’t respect her at all, which isn’t unusual among the crew still left from the original Atlantis expedition – Sam will always be a pale replacement for Elizabeth Weir. The only reason this gets her skin crawling is because it’s Rodney McKay, her sort-of arch nemesis who has a creepy crush on her. Except he’s currently dating a botanist and he’s only sexually harassed her twice in her entire three months on Atlantis.
4b. Sam still can’t get her mind around the whole Rodney McKay/Katie Brown concept, even after three months. It’s not the whole Rodney-getting-a-date thing (because, after all, she had married the guy in that terrible 1984 universe), it’s the whole Rodney-getting-a-date-with-a-fucking-botanist thing.
“Botany isn’t real science!” her spoiled inner physicist had howled upon first hearing of this couple from science hell. “How dare he!”

One would think she was jealous. And if she were jealous (which she wasn’t) it would be because yet another person on the base was getting laid and it wasn’t her.
But really…
A botanist?

5. “Your hair’s getting long, Carter.”
Sam felt Jack’s fingers brush against her back as he circled around her chair, catching loose strands of her ponytail as he went. She shivered and prayed he didn’t notice.
He sat on the edge of her desk and crossed his arms over his chest, waiting for an answer.
“The rules are different here, sir,” she replied, glancing up briefly from her work, “They’re more like…guidelines than anything.”
Jack arched a silver eyebrow in interest.
“Oh, really?”
5b. Sheppard was the first person she saw the next morning when she was sneaking back to her quarters.
"Might wanna pop the collar or something, Carter," he drawled as he passed on his way to the cafeteria, "We haven't gotten rid of the rule about hickeys quite yet."

Love the little back story with Sam and Sheppard. My secret guilty pleasure pairing is Carter/Sheppard. Sam's reaction to McKay and Katie Brown made me laugh. And Yay! for Jack in Atlantis giving Sam hickeys.
Seriously, I can express how much I love this. I can't wait for more!

I think a lot of people share that one. :) Shep/Sam backstory would just create UST galore!
