The last half of March and first part of April were not good reading week for me. I'm now about six or seven books behind on my goal for the year, so I better get cracking!

- Loved Out of Sight, Out of Time. It answered all the questions from the first four books in the series and the character development for everyone was great. Also, Zach/Cammie continues to climb on my Top 20 OTPs of All Time list. READ THE GALLAGHER GIRLS SERIES ALREADY, PLEASE.

- Eh, wasn't all that impressed with The Night Circus. Yes, the writing was gorgeous, but other than that... it was kind of a drag to get through.

- I liked the first part of Spell Bound, and I'm hoping the spin-off series Hawkins was talking about will be about the Brannicks at the center because FIERCE LADIES ARE FIERCE but I was so not happy about the ending and what happened with Cal. Seriously, Rachel Hawkins? You had the love triangle all figured out and settled, and then you had to go drop a bus (or several tons of dirt) on him? WHY WAS THAT NECESSARY?

- Pure had some really great frighting imagery that I haven't seen in YA post-apocalyptic novels (THE PROTAGONIST HAS A DOLL'S HEAD FOR A HAND, YOU GUYS), but otherwise, it was also kind of a chore to get through. Apparently this author also threw an unprofessional hissy fit about reviews or something or another on her blog? I don't know. Might borrow the sequel from the library when it comes out if I have nothing better to do.

- I looooooove Sarah MacLean's books. That is all.

- Black Heart had the most satisfying ending for a series that I've read in a long time. I really enjoyed all of it, except for the minor quibble I had with Holly Black referencing all of her fellow YA authors's works in the span of 20 pages. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY JACE NEEDS TO HAVE A CAMEO IN YOUR BOOKS, HOLLY, EVEN IF YOU'RE BFFS WITH CASSIE CLAIRE. Also, she and Cassie Claire are writing a new series together which makes me Woe Face since I told myself I'd never read anything CC publishes but I love Holly Black, so I am CONFLICTED.

In other Holly Black related news, I tried reading Tithe but couldn't force myself through it in time before it had to go back to the library. I'll probably check it out again just to finish it, but I'm thinking I'm just going to abandon it as I was getting fed up with the whole, "HEY, HERE'S A RANDOM PLOT DEVELOPMENT, LET'S GO WITH IT"-ness of it all. I think I ended at the scene where the characters were driving past a cemetery, Kaye spotted some lights up there and decided, "THOSE MUST BE FAIRIES," based on something she read about them on the Internet. Seriously? Sometimes I think Holly Black suffers from crappy-first-book-in-a-series and I-don't-know-how-to-explain-my-world-building-properly syndrome since I was not all that impressed with White Cat until the last chunk of the book.

- Fact: fairies are my least favorite paranormal/fantasy creature ever. I just find them hard to take seriously and inadvertently hysterical? I don't know, but I'm known to slam a book back down if the jacket if mentions the word "fairy" on it. But I decided to see if my fairy prejudice was wrong by picking up both Tithe and The Iron King. Tithe didn't work out so well, and Iron Knight wasn't much more of an improvement. It took me a long time to get in to because I couldn't contain my eye rolling, but I think I might continue on with the series because libraries are AWESOME and stuff.

- Under the Never Sky was all right. The wandering in the wilderness reminded me a lot of Crossed by Ally Condie, but I think that's just because I'm getting dystopian/post-apocalyptic book fatigue. Even though I've got a few more in my to-read pile, I think I'm going to take a couple month break from them because reading the same thing after another really hampers my overall reading experience, I think.

Currently reading: I might start Academy 7 by Ann Osterland today. I bought it for 99 cents at work yesterday, and it's short and a quick read, so it might not take that long.

Up next: Both The Serpent's Shadow by Rick Riordan AND Body and Soul by Stacey Kade come out Tuesday, so I'll be snapping those up and adding them to my to-reads list ASAP. Got a lot of projects due at work this week though, so we'll see if I even have time to get to them before the weekend.

What else is on my shelf: Borrowing The Book Thief, The Fault in Our Stars (not the biggest John Green fan, so it might take a while to get to this) and Going Bovine from the Artist Formerly Known As My Roommate. I'd also like to get around to reading A Handmaiden's Tale in one sitting instead of pretending to have read it and paging through it like I did for my Women's Lit class last fall.
