Merlin 2X08: Sins of My Father

The writers of Merlin just love the freaking reset button, don't they? But that being said, this is probably my favorite episode of Merlin season two so far. Excellent acting, great story, a good guest star, etc., but the ending was so damn frustrating! Why, writers, whyyyy?

Seriously, Merlin's magic needs to be revealed to someone in the main cast besides Gauis by the end of this season, or I will go insane. It looked like this episode would be a lead up to the ~reveal~ in a later episode, what with Arthur pulling the, "not all magic is evil!" line out, but NOOOOO. Merlin had to go and LIE because he's a STUPID SELFLESS WOOBIE and he cares just too damn much about Arthur's feelings! I don't even mean that in a slashy way, but DAMN, Merlin's a good BFF.

Also, Merlin's face during the scene when he says Morgause is lying? OMG MY HEART BROKE. AND IT DID AGAIN AFTER ARTHUR THANKED HIM AND HE HAD TEARS, OMG STOP BEING SUCH A WOOBIE AGH.

It might've just been me, but did anyone else get the idea that there was some truth behind the idea that Morgause might be lying about what happened to Arthur's mother? Her goal was to get Uther killed by Arthur, if the ANGRY!FACE at the end credits was anything to go by. I thought the scene with Arthur and Igraine was really manipulative, especially with the way Igraine said things happened. If I remember correctly from last season, Uther actually didn't know the "to create a life, a life must be taken" rule when he went to Nimueh for help and I don't think he'd be as much of a jackass to get Igraine pregnant by magic without her consent. But then again, this is Uther we're talking about. He passes the blame onto everyone but himself, so whatever story we get from him probably isn't exactly the truth. But still. That mother/son scene did not sit right with me for some reason.

AND YAAAAY MORGANA BACKGROUND INFORMATION. I wish they would've focused a bit more on her in the back half of the episode, but since, you know, that was Artur and Uther Angst Time, her appearance was highly unlikely.

Really, really enjoyed this episode. Not so sure about next week's episode from the previews, but who knows. It could be really interesting.
